Hilton opens new hotel at Amsterdam Airport

SCHIPHOL, December 19, 2015

Hilton Hotels & Resorts, a leading global hospitality company, has announced the opening of a 433-room hotel at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol that boasts an iconic cubic design and stunning interiors.

Pioneer of the world’s first airport hotel in 1959, Hilton today opened the latest vision for modern air travel accommodation at the main international airport of the Netherlands, said a statement from the company.

The landmark property, developed and owned by Schiphol Real Estate, replaces the previous Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which opened in 1972.

Created by acclaimed Dutch architects Mecanoo, alongside British interior design company The Gallery HBA, Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has a distinct cubic design that features a 42-metre high glazed roof.

Contemporary Dutch influence can also be found throughout the public space and guestrooms. Spanish artist Israel Páez has created a wide range of bespoke pieces for the hotel such as story-telling tile walls in the open kitchens and a series of headboards for the guest rooms representing the Dutch landscape that gives every space an authentic and local touch.

Rob Palleschi, the global head, full service brands, Hilton Worldwide, said: "The airport hotel concept was born in 1959, with the opening of Hilton San Francisco Airport. Innovation is in our blood – from being the first hospitality company to install televisions in guest rooms to introducing digital check-in with room selection via the Hilton HHonors app – and that pioneering spirit lives on as our brand nears its 100th anniversary."

"The new Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is all about challenging expectations and we look forward to giving guests a new type of airport hotel experience through our stylish design, unique F&B offerings and world-class service and amenities," he added.

Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol showcases Hilton’s new lobby concept which brings together, in a single open-plan area, unique ‘islands’ which serve as multi-functional spaces, including a reception area, lounge and bar.

The hotel is also the largest conference hotel near Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, boasting 23 flexible meeting spaces, including a ballroom with a capacity of up to 640 delegates and offers state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, making it the perfect location for events and meetings of any size, said the statement from the company.

The hotel’s 433 rooms include 12 suites with a separate living room, large bathroom and extensive work area and 96 Executive rooms, which allow guests access to the Executive Lounge, it stated.

Hilton said the Dutch heritage provided the inspiration for the food and beverage concepts at the hotel.

In the lobby and cocktail bar, guests can star gaze within the atrium whilst being able to choose from a large selection of gins and jenevers in The Netherlands. The Bowery restaurant features three live cooking stations and offers authentic grill and Asian dishes inspired by its Dutch heritage and made with fresh ingredients sourced from local suppliers and farmers, it stated.

The Vine Room, seating up to 20 guests, serves as a private, intimate event space allowing guests to enjoy exclusive moments.

Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is also home to Hilton’s global spa concept, eforea spa, alongside a 24-hour fitness centre making the hotel a welcome retreat for all guests.

Simon Vincent, executive vice president and president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Hilton Worldwide, said: "Today, Hilton Worldwide has more than 38 properties at European airport locations, with many more at prime transport hubs across the globe."

"Last year alone, more than 55 million passengers visited Amsterdam Airport Schiphol so it gives us great pleasure to be able to provide upscale, design-conscious accommodation, spa and meeting facilities, as well as a wide selection of globally inspired food and beverage options, ensuring that the new hotel is a first choice for business and leisure travellers," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
