Onyx plans 9 new properties in China by 2017

BANGKOK, Thailand, December 1, 2015

Onyx Hospitality Group, a leading international hospitality provider, plans to open by 2017 nine new properties currently under development in various parts of China.

As part of the expansion, the Group has announced two additions with the recent signing of Amari Yangshou Guilin and Shama Daqing Heilongjiang.

Scheduled to open in 2017, Amari Yangshou Guilin is centrally situated next to the popular West Street, a historical street in downtown Yangshou.

Part of an integrated commercial development by Shenzhen Yitian Group, the 75-room boutique property will provide guests with easy access to the area’s popular scenic attractions including karst peaks, rivers, caves and temples. Other hotel facilities include a Thai-inspired signature restaurant as well as Breeze Spa.

Further up north, the 110-unit Shama Daqing Heilongjiang is scheduled to open in late 2016 in the central business district of Daqing, the second largest city in the Heilongjiang province.

The serviced apartments property will service the city’s growing petroleum industry, and will include facilities such as a Shama Kitchen, a Shama Den lounge area, a fitness centre and business centre. Developed by Heilongjiang Hong He Investment, the city centre property is near Daqing Airport and a two-hour drive from Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang.

Peter Henley, president and chief executive officer of Onyx Hospitality Group, said: “As we expand our presence in China, we are very excited to be in collaboration with some of the top developers in China.”

“These two new properties are part of our growing portfolio of 59 properties in operation including 20 under development. We continue to expand our footprint beyond our Thai roots across the Asia-Pacific region and have a strategic goal of managing 81 hotels, resorts and serviced apartments by 2018, These two new deals will bring Onyx one step closer to being a leading hospitality provider in Asia,” he added.

In China, Onyx Hospitality Group has a current operating portfolio of six properties in Shanghai and Hangzhou. The company has nine new properties under development and scheduled to open by 2017. These include Amari Dali Yunnan, Amari Huidong Guangdong, Shama Yanglin Beijing, Shama Tianfu Chengdu, Shama Pazhou Guangzhou, Shama Caojiadu Shanghai and OZO Shishi Xiamen.

Onyx Hospitality Group continues to target its China expansion in prime cities such as Xiamen and Shenzhen, and has several projects in the negotiation stage, a statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
