Qatar Airways and leading telecommunications partner Ooredoo have expanded their strategic partnership, with the national airline moving both its primary and backup data to Ooredoo’s cloud-hosting platform.

As part of the migration, Qatar Airways has moved its systems and infrastructure to the Ooredoo Data Centre.

The move to Ooredoo’s first-of-its-kind cloud-hosting platform will enable Qatar Airways to deploy the latest generation of cloud backup and security solutions quickly and cost-effectively, in a flexible and scalable manner.

As Qatar Airways continues to pursue its ambitious strategy of global growth, Ooredoo’s technology will enable the airline to manage growing volumes of data with confidence.

The opening of the hosting area in Ooredoo’s Qatar Data Centre 5 (QDC5) in Mesaimeer was attended by senior officials from both companies including Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, CEO, Ooredoo Qatar; Akbar Al Baker, Group chief executive of Qatar Airways; and Waleed Al Sayed, COO, Ooredoo Qatar.

Al Baker said: “I would like to express my gratitude to Ooredoo and my team from Qatar Airways who have successfully completed the seamless transfer of Qatar Airways systems and infrastructure to this new state-of-the-art Ooredoo Data Centre facility, without any disruption to the 24/7 operations of Qatar Airways. This move demonstrates the confidence and commitment we place in Ooredoo as a business partner, and it is my hope that this partnership will continue to grow over the years to come, as our airline continues its global expansion.”

The cloud-hosting platform, which was launched recently in partnership with Microsoft offers a host of features including advanced cyber security, customer relationship management and file-sharing applications all on Ooredoo’s bigger and faster network.

Launched in October 2014, Ooredoo’s QDC5 Smart Data Centre is one of the most advanced in the region, receiving an ISO 22301 certification that positions the facility and Ooredoo as a global leader in data availability, resilience, and disaster recovery.
