Students eye internship in Bahrain’s hospitality industry

MANAMA, April 8, 2015

Around 50 aspiring hospitality sector professionals will seek internships as the Bahrain Institute of Hospitality and Retail (BIHR) career fair gets underway today (April 8).

To be held at the BIHR's campus in Barbar, off Budaiya Highway, the fair will run from 10am to 3pm, with 35 hotel companies participating, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The companies are expected to make presentations and conduct interviews with the students.

“The purpose of the activity is to enable 50 diploma students to meet representatives from the private and public sectors interested in recruiting them,” HTMi Hotel and Tourism Management Institute Switzerland Bahrain Campus director of operations Nigel Viegas said.

“As many as 25 of our students will be seeking internships from August, whilst the rest of them will be available from December.”

As part of the academic programme, students are required to have 12 months of internships.

“We are committed to meeting the needs of the hospitality and retail industry by providing highly trained individuals to deliver benchmark standards of competence,” Viegas added.

The institute is playing a leading role in boosting Bahrainisation in the industry and continues to tailor its programmes to ensure they raise the professional calibre of its Bahraini students to world-class standards.

“We are also looking for new students to join in August who will receive a full scholarship,” he said.

BIHR's facilities include training kitchens and restaurants, a front office and housekeeping laboratory, a resource centre and state-of-the-art information technology including campus-wide wireless facilities. - TradeArabia News Service
