Baby born aboard New York-bound RJ flight

AMMAN, January 21, 2015

A Jordanian woman gave birth to a baby girl aboard Royal Jordanian's New York-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner on January 20.

RJ indicated that the 33-year-old mother went into labour four hours before landing at the JFK airport in New York, while the aircraft was flying over the Atlantic.

The captain was about to conduct an emergency landing at one of the Canadian airports, but the delivery was fast and easy, helped by an anaesthesiologist and a legal nurse who happened to be on board, and in cooperation with the crew members, who were specially trained in first aid and  deliveries.

The mother and child were in good health and there was no need to divert the plane.

The travelling mother was pregnant in her 31st week. RJ rules allow a pregnant woman to travel up to 36 weeks of pregnancy in case of single pregnancy, and up to 32 weeks for multiple child pregnancy.

The mother expressed gratitude for the great help she received from the physician, the nurse and the flight attendants, and thanked the RJ staff at JFK station who received her and the baby and transferred them to the hospital as soon as the plane landed. – TradeArabia News Service
