Dubai's leading developer Emaar Properties is set to launch the first phase of a world-class trolley tram system in Downtown Dubai, its flagship mega-development, in the first quarter of this year.

A convenient and fun-oriented ‘hop-on hop-off’ transit system, the all-new Dubai Trolley will add tremendous value to Downtown Dubai residents and visitors by offering them an attractive and user-friendly commuting service within the world’s most prestigious square kilometre, said a statement from Emaar.

To span a distance of 7 km, Dubai Trolley will serve as an exotic, easy-to-access connecting link between the various iconic attractions in Downtown Dubai including Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and The Dubai Mall, the world’s most-visited retail and lifestyle destination.

Aligned along Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, the first phase of Dubai Trolley will cover a distance of 1 km and will have three stations to offer passengers easy access to The Dubai Mall, and The Address Downtown Dubai and Vida Downtown Dubai hotels, it stated.

With the rails already laid out and the stations getting their finishing touches, the kilometre-long phase one of the city’s newest public transport system will soon open to public, it added.

With The Dubai Mall welcoming millions of visitors every month and Downtown Dubai’s hotels recording strong occupancy levels, Dubai Trolley will add to the convenience of residents and visitors in traversing the 500-acre development described as ‘The Centre of Now,’ said the statement from Emaar.
 
They can also effortlessly access Souk Al Bahar, The Dubai Fountain, several residential towers and myriad restaurants on Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, one of the world’s most vibrant thoroughfares, it added.

Ahmad Al Matrooshi, the managing director, said: "Dubai Trolley is a smart urban mobility service that further builds on the trolley tram systems that are in use in several cities across the US and Europe. While they were a game-changer in public transport when first invented in the 1880s by introducing a new concept to urban mobility, they are now largely used as tourist attractions."

Downtown Dubai is conveniently linked to the Dubai Metro through an air-conditioned travellator. Additionally, the centrally-located destination is well-serviced by public transport including Roads & Transport Authority’s buses and taxis. Visitors also have the choice of touring the 500-acre development described as ‘The Centre of Now’ through The Boulevard Bus Tour, said the statement.

A thriving residential community, Downtown Dubai also has the most sought-after commercial property and several world-class hotels. Dubai Trolley will be another feather in its cap and Dubai’s newest tourist attraction, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
