Financial blow for three-star hotels in Bahrain

Manama, August 3, 2014

Three-star hotels in Bahrain have suffered huge financial losses during the Eid holiday, with some achieving “zero revenues”, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

In a statement issued yesterday, owners’ blamed the closure of half of the three-star hotels and absence of entertainment activities on the decisions taken by the Culture Ministry. They dismissed as false claims that they had been notified - throughout the year - of the decision to close the three-star hotels, challenging any official from the Tourism Directorate to publish any circular in this respect.

Some investors had bought their hotels only a few months before the decision and are now facing bankruptcy and jail sentences, GDN reported. Had they been aware of the decision, they would have never got themselves involved in losing deals, they said.

They expressed resolve to continue to defend their rights through all legal channels, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej – TradeArabia News Service
