W Doha Hotel wins ‘Green Key’ award

Doha, January 9, 2014

W Doha Hotel and Residences has won the international environment certificate ‘Green Key’ recently.

The award is an eco-label for tourism and leisure establishments that fulfil a list of environmental requirements, which demonstrates its responsibility for its surroundings and community, said a statement.

The criteria for the award is judged across a number of ‘Green Key Programme’ pillars including a list of environmental requirements, covering a wide range of standards, from environmental demands, availability of action plans, education and communication.

Over the past year, the hotel has hosted a number of environmental sustainability initiatives such as ‘Make a Green Choice’, beach clean-ups, recycling projects in the hotel and staff accommodation, which have resulted in a 100 per cent increase of plastic, paper and cans being recycled from August to December.

Safak Guvenc, general manager, said: We will continue to work on initiatives that drive awareness around green issues and ensure that we are aligned with Qatar’s 2030 national vision of transforming it into an advanced country, whilst adhering to a highly sustainable approach.” - TradeArabia News Service
