Qatar Airways says no plans for budget airline
Seattle, November 18, 2012
Qatar Airways has neither immediate plans to launch a budget airline to compete with Dubai's expanding low-cost carrier flyDubai nor any move to float an initial public offering, said a report citing its chief executive.
"Qatar Airways will instead concentrate on enlarging its global network as part of rivalries with Gulf carriers Emirates and Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways," chief executive Akbar Al Baker told the Dubai-based Khaleej Times.
Al Baker was speaking in Seattle after taking delivery of the airline's first Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
On the IPO plans, Qatar Airways' chief said, "The world economy would take some time to recover, so the situation is not right for an IPO launch. He, however, said Qatar Airways would keep all its options open.
