Onyx to hold GCC Regional Roadshow

Thailand-based hotel management company, Onyx Hospitality Group, will hold its first GCC Regional Roadshow from April 25 to 29 in Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE.
The event will comprise four promotional seminars and workshops beginning in Kuwait on April 25 followed by Doha on the 26, Dubai on 28 and Abu Dhabi on 29, a statement from the group said.
Headed by M L Suravut Thongthaem, senior vice president of sales, Onyx Hospitality Group, the delegation of nine will also include the vice president of sales, six general managers from selected Onyx managed hotels located in Thailand, and Mohamed Al Azzam, director of sales, Middle East, North Africa and Subcontinent.
Peter Henley, president and CEO, Onyx Hospitality Group, said: “With visitor numbers from across the Middle East increasing to more than 140,000 last year, this region is a key market for Onyx properties and we are investing more time in the region to increase awareness and establish a greater sales and PR presence.”
The figures released for 2011 show the total number of Middle East guests staying at Onyx portfolio properties reached 145,971 an increase of 47 per cent when compared to the 99,201 received in 2010.
2011 guests numbers from the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar have all shown significant increases of 28 per cent, 69 per cent and 143 per cent respectively when compared to the same in 2010.
The main purpose of the show is to educate the GCC’s leading travel industry players about the Onyx hospitality brands of Saffron, Amari, Shama and Ozo; establish direct relationships between the general managers of the properties and the travel agents; and generate business for the popular summer travel months.
During each workshop the group will promote its direct online booking channels as well as provide information and details of its upcoming new hotel and properties, the statement said.
“Our visit to the region will also help to strengthen relationships with local partners and allow the Onyx Hospitality Group to gain a greater understanding of the GCC visitor market so that its portfolio of properties will become the preferred properties of choice for GCC residents when travelling abroad,” Henley said.
