Bahrain hotel sector 'facing crisis'

Manama, February 28, 2011

Bahrain's hotel sector is facing a crisis due to the current political events, following the postponement of the F1 Grand Prix, in addition to a number of festivals, conferences and events that should have taken place until April.

The hotel cancellations ratio ranges between 80 per cent and 90 per cent. Some hotels did not receive any clients for the past two weeks, with empty rooms, even at weekends, said hotels and resorts managers.

Abdulnabi Al Dolaimi of the five-star hotels executive managers' group called for quick end to the crisis, particularly that the tourism sector represents 8 per cent to 12 per cent of national income, our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej reported.-TradeArabia News Service
