Surfers get jamming at Wahooo! waterpark
Manama, September 20, 2010
Wahooo! waterpark, the Middle East’s first indoor/outdoor waterpark with temperature controlled pools held a flowriding “jam session” on the last day of Eid.
Wahooo! is the only venue in Bahrain where one can not only ride a wave but flowriding enthusiasts can also enrol for surfing lessons. The park held a Jam Session last week which welcomed more than 35 youngsters from Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, who displayed breathtaking moves and tricks on the Wahooo! Flowrider.
The youngsters were judged by surf champions Wesley Fisher and Billy Tenant, both acclaimed members of a winning championship team at the International Flowriding Championships (IFC) 2009. The first place winner, Sean Kingsbury was rewarded with a personal flowriding surfboard, while the remaining finalists received exciting prizes from Wahooo!'s latest addition of professional surf equipment from O’neill.
Of the 12 finalists short-listed by the surf champions, 7 were Bahrainis while 5 were expatriates.
“Wahooo’s first-ever Jam Session got a better response than we expected. From over than 35 entrants, the judges picked 12 finalists to display their skills at the Jam Session. The judges were quite impressed and our sponsors O’neill were happy that the event introduced Bahrain’s youngsters to a whole new world of exciting watersports,” said Shama Uchil, marketing manager of Wahooo! Waterpark Bahrain.
Since March 20, Wahooo! has specialised in teaching all levels of surfing from first timers to advanced surfers; and offers private or group surf lessons, she added.-TradeArabia News Service
