New fast track system for road travellers
Dubai, June 19, 2010
UAE travellers planning road trips have been given a boost ahead of the summer holiday period with the launch of a fast track system to deliver the necessary travel documents.
The Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE has brought a three-part application process for travel documents under one roof at its Dubai headquarters in Al Mumzar, meaning a significant reduction in time, said a statement.
Applications for the following documents can now be issued during a single visit:
* Trip ticket, or Carnet de Passages en Douane, issued by the ATCUAE
* Certificate of Tourism, issued by the Roads & Transport Authority to allow vehicles to be driven across borders to destinations beyond the GCC.
* Transit visa for vehicles crossing into Saudi or through the kingdom, issued by the Saudi Arabian authorities
Previously, those in possession of Trip tickets and Carnet de Passages en Douane had to make separate visits to other designated offices to apply for Saudi transit visas.
The introduction of the new fast track system at the ATCUAE’s Dubai headquarters is the second piece of good news for motoring tourists in recent weeks, it said.
Earlier this month, with the support of the ATCUAE, the RTA introduced new booklets offering a wide range of advice to those travelling outside the UAE by road, aimed particularly at families making long journeys to Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and other Middle East countries this summer.
The initiative is aimed at bringing much greater safety for motoring tourists and their families by alerting them to take all necessary precautions to prevent accidents.
Motorists are advised to take good care of their cars, and be aware that the very high summer temperatures can have a big effect on driving conditions. – TradeArabia News Service
