Indoor skydiving centre set for launch

Dubai, April 1, 2010

The region’s first public indoor skydiving centre iFly Dubai is set to launch today (April 1) at Mirdif City Centre, Dubai’s newest shopping mall.

iFly Dubai uses innovative wind tunnel technology that allows participants to experience the thrill of free falling without jumping from a plane.

This exhilarating attraction uses transparent acrylic tubes powered by two 400 horsepower fans to allow participants to ride a current of air. And with winds in the tunnel reaching up to 200 kph, extreme sport enthusiasts will not be disappointed, a statement said.

iFly Dubai is part of a range of innovative entertainment concepts at Playnation, a dedicated leisure and entertainment destination at Mirdif City Centre, spearheaded by Majid Al Futtaim Leisure, a subsidiary of the Majid Al Futtaim Group.

“iFly Dubai is unlike anything ever experienced by the UAE public before,” said Ahmed Ismail, CEO Majid Al Futtaim Ventures.

“This exhilarating and unique attraction from Majid Al Futtaim Leisure is a safe and exciting way to feel human flight and allows all the family to have a go at sky diving without any prior experience,” he added.

“With highly trained instructors on hand to teach participants everything they need to know for the thrill of a lifetime, we are confident that this fantastic leisure attraction will become a much talked about highlight of not just the Emirates, but of the region as well.”

Requiring no prior training, iFly Dubai can be enjoyed by all the family and children as young as five, as the controlled and instructor-supervised environment, along with the use of jumpsuit, goggles and helmet ensures that the highest safety standards are met, the statement added.

Using a vertical wind tower and floating on a cushion of air, more experienced participants can learn to perform aerobatic manoeuvres and even fly in groups.

Beginners who might be apprehensive about planes and parachutes or who have a fear of heights will find that iFly Dubai is the perfect place to experience human flight, without the risk.

iFly Dubai users are safely within a few feet of the floor, and undertake expert instruction for the entire session, according to the statement. – TradeArabia News Service
