Bahrain Airport unveils baggage rules

Manama, September 3, 2007

The Bahrain International Airport has released a list of do's and don'ts on hand baggage restrictions to be enforced at the airport from September 30.

A Civil Aviation Affairs statement said the rules apply to all passengers departing from or on connecting flights from the airport regardless of their destination.

Restrictions:

* Liquids must be in separate containers and no single item may contain more than 100 millilitres of liquid.

* Items that contain liquids must be carried in one clear plastic bag with a maximum capacity of one litre.

* The plastic bag must be re-sealable.

* Each passenger is allowed to carry one clear plastic bag not exceeding 20 cm x 20 cm or equivalent to one litre capacity onto the aircraft.

What qualifies as 'liquids'?

Water and other drinks, syrup and soup, perfume, gels, creams, lotions and aerosols. Toiletries such as toothpaste, roll on deodorant, lip gloss, shaving foam, liquid make-up and mascara.

Exceptions: Medicine and liquid dietary requirements and baby food for use during the trip, but always check first.

People can still purchase duty free liquids such as drinks and perfume but purchases may be packed and sealed by the shop and must be accompanied by a receipt.

The statement said a similar regulation has been in force since September last year in Europe and the US.

Items and bags that do not meet the criteria may be discarded by security personnel. – TradeArabia News Service
