Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) said it has achieved a significant milestone with the groundbreaking for its Al Ajban Solar PV project, one of the largest single-site solar plants in the world, in co-ordination with key partners - French energy group EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power Company (Kowepo).
The project will have a power generation capacity of 1,500 MW (AC) and boast around 3 million bi-facial solar panels.
Once commercially operational in Q3 2026, Al Ajban Solar PV will make the UAE home to four of the world’s largest single-site solar power plants, with three of them located in Abu Dhabi.
The project will generate enough electricity to power 160,000 households across the UAE and is expected to reduce Abu Dhabi’s carbon emissions by 2.4 million metric tonnes per year.
The Al Ajban Solar PV power plant is part of the UAE’s NetZero by 2050 strategic initiative and is the third utility–scale solar park in the Emirate of AbuDhabi, making the Emirate a pioneer in Renewable Energy deployment.-TradeArabia News Service
