UAE's nuclear project construction 84pc complete

ABU DHABI, October 29, 2017

Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec) said work is progressing at a steady pace on its ambitious Barakah project in Abu Dhabi, UAE with over 84 per cent of the construction already completed at all the four units of the plant.

Leading nuclear energy experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and senior UAE officials visited the plant site today (October 29), witnessing the significant progress being made across all four units, according to Enec.

The delegation observed all of the key updates to the construction of the units which are being developed to the highest standards of nuclear quality, safety and security.

The visit came ahead of the IAEA International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st  Century, which opens tomorrow (October 30) in Abu Dhabi and runs till November 1, it stated.

According to Enec, the work at Unit 1 is more than 96 per cent over, while Unit 2 has witnessed over 87 per cent of the job competed , Unit 3 with more than 78 per cent, and Unit 4 now 58 per cent complete.

The Emirati company said all four units will deliver clean, efficient and reliable electricity from nuclear energy to the UAE grid, pending regulatory reviews and licensing.

On completion, the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant will save up to 21 million tons of carbon emissions each year.-TradeArabia News Service
