New calcium chloride plant to be set up in Qatar

KLJ Organic Qatar and Gulf Chlorine recently signed an agreement to establish a calcium chloride plant at Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC) in Doha, Qatar, said a report.

KLJ Organic Qatar is a joint venture (JV) between Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company (QIMC) and India-based KLJ Organic Limited.

The new plant, which will be set up the under the name of United Chemicals, will produce 60,000 tonnes per year (tpy) of calcium chloride, added the Gulf Times report.

The newly formed JV will also market hydrochloric acid and is discussing other business synergies.

QIMC will have a 60 per cent stake in the joint venture, while the remainder will be held by KLJ Organic Limited, India.

KLJ Organic Qatar will manufacture chlorinated paraffin wax, caustic soda prills, hydrochloric acid and sodium hypo chlorite.

Gulf Chlorine is a JV between Oman Chlorine and Al Mirqab Capital.

At the MIC, the plant is located in close proximity to the world-class export terminal at the port.
