American University in Dubai to host energy summit

DUBAI, December 14, 2015

The American University in Dubai is set to host the inaugural Emirates Energy Efficiency Summit (EEES), for which preparations are underway with partners GE and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

Designed to elevate awareness and support for energy saving and climate change projects and initiatives, the EEES aims to encourage global discussion and knowledge sharing on these key issues – a goal that chimes well with the university’s own mission, said a statement.

With a strong focus on the personal growth of its students, AUD encourages worldwide understanding by providing an atmosphere of cultural diversity and international learning, making it the perfect setting for the EEES, it said.

Dr Lance E de Masi, president of AUD and a member of the executive council shaping the direction of the EEES, said: "AUD's mission is to advance the welfare of society by imparting, cultivating and disseminating knowledge. Our hosting and contributing to the organization of the Emirates Energy Efficiency Summit is a way to further this mission.

"Just as teaching and learning by students and research by faculty result in tangible progress, it is my hope that this conference will serve to address key issues – e.g. policy, regulation and measurement within the sphere of energy efficiency management in the UAE."

Agostino Renna, president and chief executive officer of GE Lighting EMEA, commented: “Partnerships, discussion and knowledge sharing are the keys to overcoming the worldwide challenges we face as a society today – and what better place could we have to begin those conversations than at AUD, a prestigious centre of learning.

"AUD has a commitment to process-oriented discoveries through collaboration and participation, which is exactly what we are seeking to achieve through the EEES.”

Combining business and social interests with government action, the overall objective of the EEES, which is part of the Partners for Progress on Energy Efficiency initiative, is to foster enhanced communication, while educating participants about key energy efficiency issues and trends, as well as provoking a two-way dialogue that will ultimately help drive real action, said the statement.

The invitation-only event, which will held on February 3 and 4, will bring together prominent keynote speakers and high-level B2B stakeholders, including business professionals, government legislators and the media, for an informative programme of roundtable discussions and presentations. - TradeArabia News Service
