Tehran hopes to increase crude oil production rapidly

Zanganeh says Iran doesn't need permission to increase crude output

DUBAI, December 2, 2015

Iran does not need permission to increase its oil production after sanctions are lifted, Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh was quoted as saying on Wednesday ahead of a meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec).

Tehran hopes to increase crude oil production rapidly after international sanctions are lifted, which is expected next year, and says that other Opec members should trim their output to make way for Iran's return to the market.

"Iran does not need the permission of any country to increase its oil production," Zanganeh was quoted as saying by the Shana news agency, adding that he had written to other Opec members to communicate Iran's policy. --Reuters
