Dewa launches $28m substation in Dubai Academic City

DUBAI, August 25, 2015

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has launched a new Dh106-million ($28.8 million) 132/11kV substation, with a capacity of 150 megavolt amperes (MVA), in Dubai Academic City, according to a report.
 
The new station is aimed at meeting the growing demand for electricity for different uses, said the Emirates News Agency (WAM) report.
 
"To achieve the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and to support our commitment to our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, we are strengthening our infrastructure and service facilities according to the highest international standards. This contributes to moving the UAE’s economy forward, and enhancing its position as a leading global economic hub," Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive officer, was quoted as saying.
 
A total of 3.2 km of 132 kV ground cables were extended to connect the project with the 132/400 kV substation in Al Warsan, and the 132/11 kV substation in Al Ruwayyah, said the report.
 
These stations have been built according to the highest standards of quality and safety. They feature the latest substation digital technologies, which will strengthen their reliability and efficiency and support Dubai’s ambitious development and economic plans, it added.
