Fawry rolls out electricity bill payment service in Egypt
CAIRO, November 10, 2014
Fawry, a leading electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP) platform in Egypt, has rolled out its electricity bill payment service nationwide.
Egypt’s electricity providers are part of the Fawry network now, allowing customers from across Egypt to pay their electricity bills by using Fawry’s easy and convenient bill payment service, said a statement.
Customers can pay their electricity bills in a number of ways, whether it be at one of Fawry’s 50,000 point of sale retail locations, 4,500 ATMs, or via the MyFawry platform, which can be accessed online or through mobile devices, it said.
Fawry first piloted its electricity bill payment service three years ago and now Egypt’s EBPP leader offers 100 per cent coverage for more than 24 million subscribers across the country for the following electricity companies which are now members of the Fawry network: North Cairo Electricity Distribution Company, South Cairo Electricity Distribution Company, Alexandria Electricity Distribution Company, Canal Company for Electricity Distribution, North Delta Electricity Distribution Company, South Delta Electricity Distribution Company, Middle Egypt Electricity Distribution Company, Upper Egypt Electricity Distribution Company and Behira Co for Electricity Distribution.
It currently processes an estimated 250,000 bill payments – valued at EGP20 million ($2.7 million) each year, said the statement.
Ashraf Sabry, CEO, said: “Since we first launched our electricity bill payment service three years ago, we at Fawry have been providing both customers and electricity companies with easy and convenient bill payment and presentment services, and we are proud to announce that the service has officially gone nationwide.
“Customers have been benefitting the convenience and security that our network offers by allowing them to be in control of their finances and pay their bills 24 hours a day from wherever is easiest for them, be it at their bank, online, or at a nearby point of sale retail location.”
“Electricity companies also benefit from the service as they are able to receive immediate payment from its banked and non-banked customers from a single integrated platform. This minimises processing costs, reduces the potential for errors, and enhances the overall settlement cycle,” Sabry added. - TradeArabia News Service
