Siemens to supply electrical parts to Egypt power plant
CAIRO, September 23, 2014
Siemens, a powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering operating in the energy, infrastructure, industry and healthcare sectors, has won an order to supply, install and commission major electrical components for the East Delta Electricity Production Company’s (EDEPC) Suez Thermal Power Plant in Egypt.
The oil-fired thermal power plant is part of a national plan to enhance the power supply network across Egypt and will be commissioned in June 2016, said a statement.
The project site at Suez is located on the north coast of the Gulf of Suez, on the Red Sea, it said.
The scope of Siemens supply covers the whole electrical package including key electrical components such as an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and all types of cables.
Siemens will also be responsible for the installation, testing and commissioning of equipment supplied by EDEPC.
The electrical package supplied by Siemens is critical to the enhancement of the power plant’s performance, and has the capacity to increase the flexibility, availability and reliability of the facility, said the statement.
Emad Ghaly, country division lead for power generation, Siemens Egypt, said: “The Egyptian power plant market is developing dynamically, and more than ever it is crucial that efficient and flexible technologies are employed to meet increasing demand for electricity.
“With our wealth of experience, manpower and our strong local presence, we are in an excellent position to help Egypt to accommodate this growing demand for power.” - TradeArabia News Service
