UAE launches energy conservation drive
Dubai, December 17, 2013
UAE’s Ministry of Energy and Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) has launched a campaign to improve ‘consumption habits for the benefit of future generations.’
Under the slogan ‘Together, Change is Possible,’ the campaign seeks to create and enhance the culture of conserving electricity and water across the various sections of society, said director general of Fewa Mohammed Saleh.
“Studies have shown that the average individual energy consumption in the UAE comes to multiples of the same internationally. We have chosen the slogan to encourage co-operation between governmental and individual parties to accomplish the needed conservation and make change possible,” he said.
The campaign is targeted at four primary categories - children, as representatives of future generations; households; governmental and private organisations; and mosques.
Energy Minister and chairman of Fewa Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei said: “Having shown a strong interest in the conservation and diversification of energy sources in the country, the UAE leadership has put together strategies and plans with the aim of launching numerous projects that cater to increasing demand for green and sustainable energy production.”
“The concept and culture of conservation is not limited to consumption reduction: it is about optimal consumption that smart practices are adopted to help reduce wastage and stop needless waste and costs,” he added. - TradeArabia News Service
