Energy Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza yesterday laid the foundation stone of Bapco's Refinery Environmental District.

It will cover areas occupied by the company's environmental projects and will be a green statement to the outside world, Dr Mirza said.

"There will be more than 1.7km of landscaping and every effort shall be made to sustain and enhance the area," he said. "This is another step to demonstrate to the world that we care," he added.

Dr Mirza said Bapco was at the forefront of Bahrain's green drive and had implemented several environmental projects.

"As an industry leader, the company has taken upon itself the responsibility of pushing through numerous initiatives that have helped in not only increasing overall awareness of environmental issues, but also demonstrating that sustainable progress is achievable without damaging the environment," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
