2 new power stations open in Bahrain

Bahrain Energy Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza has opened two 66-kv power stations at Salmabad and Maqaba.

Electricity and Water Authority executive vice-president for planning and projects Dr Khalid Bu Rashid said the power stations were built using latest technology.

Dr Mirza thanked His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and Economic Board Development chairman for supporting the projects undertaken by Electricity and Water Authority, by facilitating the implementation of such vital projects.

The power stations were built at a very competitive price of BD9 million ($23.9 million).

Dr Mirza said the stations were constructed by a group of foreign companies.

He thanked the authority's staff for their continuous efforts in activating the stations despite all the challenges.

Electricity and Water Authority chief executive Dr Abdulmajeed Al Awadhi, executive vice-presidents and officials, in addition to representatives of the operating companies, were present during the event.-TradeArabia News Service
