Siemens to build new $136m UAE grid station
Abu Dhabi, May 11, 2011
Siemens has signed a deal worth over Dh500 million ($136 million) to build a new 400kV grid station in Abu Dhabi.
The deal for the 400/132kV grid station, to be based in the Mahawi area of Abu Dhabi, was signed with Adwea/Transco, owners of the emirate's generation and transmission grid.
Once completed in 2013 the grid station will be the main power supply source for mega development projects in Mussafah, Mohamed bin Zayed City, Mahawi, Watbha, Khalifa City, Old Airport and Capital District. The grid station will also allow Transco to reconfigure existing 400kV and 132kV overhead line circuits to improve system reliability.
“The local team will be supported by Siemens in Germany in terms of equipment supply, but this project will be totally designed, engineered, constructed and commissioned by UAE based staff,” said Wolfgang Braun, head of Energy Transmission & Distribution.
The solutions offered by Siemens for the turnkey grid station will consist of 400kV GIS switchgear 8DQ1, 132kV switchgear 8DN8-Enhanced version, 33kV switchgear 8DB10, 500MVA and 120MVA power transformers, together with complete balance of plant equipment including civil works.-TradeArabia News Service
