Jordan,Yemen firms ink power contract

Jordan-based Central Electricity Generating Company (CEGCO) said it has signed a MoU with the Public Electricity Corporation (PEC) in Yemen for development of joint projects and exchange of expertise in the field of power generation.

The MoU was signed by a visiting Jordanian delegation headed by Cegco CEO Abdel Fattah Al-Nsour. The ubaishat, executive manager/assets management, and Ali Rawashdeh, executive manager/ engineering services.

The visit entailed a meeting with the Yemeni Minister of Electricity and Energy Awadh Saad Al-Suqatri, the secretary general of the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity Ahmad Hussan Al-Ayni, and PEC general manager Abdul Momin Mutahar.

The visiting delegation also conducted a field visit in the Ras Katneeb Power Station in the city of Al-Hadeeda along the Red Sea.

The MoU, signed by Al-Nsour and Momin Mutahar, aims to exchange expertise and information in different areas related to electricity generation and its uses, and the planning of joint projects and technical consultancy.

Under the agreement, the two companies will exchange studies to restore, modernize and increase the efficiency of power stations in Yemen; the planning of the construction of new electricity generation stations; and implementation of feasibility studies for planned stations.

In addition, the delegation discussed the provision of consulting services for comprehensive projects related to electricity generation stations in competition with consulting firms, which will include bids, the analysis of offers, managing contracts, and overseeing the implementation of these projects.

Both parties also aim to enhance co-operation with regards to building and implementing a quality assurance system; exchange visits and training in the field of maintenance operations and the rehabilitation of stations; manufacture and repair spare parts in power plants.

Al-Nsour said: “Through this agreement, we seek to enhance the close ties that exist between Jordan and Yemen in the electricity sector, with the overall aim of strengthening co-operation and advancing our operations through co-operation and co-ordination in the areas of generating electricity and planning its uses.”

The agreement has already come into effect and Cegco has entered into a bid to manufacture gas air heater baskets for the Ras Katheem Power Station, the company chief said.

The company will support the Public Electricity Corporation to transfer expertise related to electricity generation including operation and maintenance, providing spare parts and transferring company expertise in the field of tender preparation through a specialized energy production system.”-TradeArabia News Service
