Fire breaks out at Kuwait refinery

Kuwait, January 14, 2009

A small fire broke out early on Wednesday at Kuwait's largest refinery in Mina Al-Ahmadi, but was quickly put off without causing any damage or harming export, the state refiner said on Wednesday.

'The refinery is operating at full capacity,' said a spokesman for Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).

He said the fire broke in the early hours of the morning at an isolated bitumin tank.

Mina al-Ahmadi refinery has a capacity to process 460,000 barrels per day of crude.
