Abu Dhabi fines 11,000 over traffic violations

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police has issued more than 11,000 traffic fines in the first quarter of the year.
The technical glitches include worn-out tyres; gas emissions that exceed specified standards; and using broken indicators or lights, which may lead to traffic accidents resulting in deaths and serious injuries.
Colonel Mohammed Ahmed Saif Al Mazroui, the chief of Peripheral Regions Traffic Section, pointed out that the fines issued included 7,040 to vehicles with worn-out tyres; 2,544 for vehicles with no brake lights; 1,375 for vehicles with broken or unfit indicators or lights; 147 to vehicles with gas emissions exceeding specified standards; and 179 to vehicles with no lights on the back or sides of trailer container.
Al Mazroui appealed to the drivers to keep basic safety items in the vehicle, including a tool kit, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, flares or a reflective triangle, a mobile device battery charger, an electric tire inflator and a flashlight.
He also urged them to check the validity and good condition of safety items such as tyres, mirrors, lights, brakes, seat belts, head restraints, child safety seats, and airbags.-TradeArabia News Service
