Camaro Convertible debuts at Abu Dhabi show
Abu Dhabi, December 6, 2010
Camaro Convertible, the all-new sports coupe model from Chevrolet, will make it Middle East debut at the Abu Dhabi International Motor Show which opens on Tuesday.
The showcase at the Abu Dhabi show, which runs till December 11, follows a well-received premiere of the Convertible at the Los Angeles International Auto Show recently. It will be the second such reveal for this model, said a Chevrolet statement.
The all-new convertible, which will surely turn heads across the region once it arrives in Spring 2011, includes an enhanced body structure and well-tailored top mechanism; a combination designed to deliver sports coupe-like driving fun and precise quality, it added.
"The launch of the Camaro Convertible is a natural next step following the immensely popular revival of the Camaro," said Susan Docherty, vice president, Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at General Motors International Operations.
"We are expecting a strong customer response for this segment-leading model in the region, where top-down driving fun and precise engineering are in high demand," she noted.
The convertible will be offered in similar model configurations as the Camaro coupe. The standard model will have a 312-horsepower direct injection V-6 engine. The SS model will feature the 6.2L V-8 engine producing 426 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, with an optional six-speed automatic.
"Camaro seized leadership in US sales in its segment with the original coupe model that launched in spring 2009 as a 2010 model. Recently, one of the first Camaro Convertibles, sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction in the US for $205,000 – a testament to the anticipated strong demand for this model," said Docherty.
The Camaro Convertible, which will be offered in V-6 and V-8 trim, delivers great refinement, along with uncompromising, coupe-like driving dynamics. Its enhanced body structure helps prevent cowl or steering wheel shake, for a strong, confident feel in all driving conditions.
The top has a smooth, tailored fit, with acoustical foam in the headliner that helps deliver a quiet ride with the top up, she added.
Nine production exterior colors are available, with tops offered in black or tan. Rear parking assist is available on all convertible models, the official said.
"The Camaro’s architecture was designed to accommodate a convertible model, which means customers enjoy the fun of top-down cruising with coupe-like driving dynamics. Four strategic reinforcements enhance the already-stiff body structure," Docherty said.
"Additional safety structural reinforcements are designed to improve noise and vibration characteristics," she added.-TradeArabia News Service
