German automaker Audi plans to launch its new A1, the first premium automobile in the small compacts class, in the Middle East in mid 2011.

The Audi A1’s high-strength body features a distinctively progressive, coupe-like design with large wheel wells and a contrasting custom-look roof arch as an option. The headlights, optional xenon plus with LED daytime running lights and 3D style tail lights underline its lighting characteristics.

The interior of the A1 is sporty, with a top-level fit and finish, which customers can customise in detail to their personal tastes.

It features an optional retractable MMI display on the instrument panel, a high-performance navigation system with MMI control concept, comprehensive options for the connection and playback of mobile phones and portable music media, as well as a Bluetooth interface and a Bose audio system with LED fiberoptic technology.

The Audi A1 will be available with four powerful TDI and TFSI engines with a power output ranging from 63 kW (86 hp) to 90 kW (122 hp). All engines feature turbocharging and direct fuel injection as well as a recuperation system, start-stop system and on-board computer with efficiency program.

All versions of the A1 impress with good fuel economy, with standard cycle values between 3.8 and 5.4 liters per 100 kilometers (provisional values). The 1.6 TDI with 66 kW (90 hp) and 77 kW (105 hp) and manual transmission emits as little as 99 g of CO2 per kilometer (provisional value).

However, engines, specifications and prices for the Middle East have not been set yet, according to a statement.

The A1 is available with the seven-speed S-tronic transmission. The dual-clutch transmission changes gears extremely quickly, comfortably and without detectable interruptions in pulling power.

It offers both automatic and manual modes, with paddles on the steering wheel available as an option, the statement added. – TradeArabia News Service
