First Bahrain, BIC plan fun city for F1 fans
Manama , February 3, 2010
Bahrain International Circuit has signed an agreement with ‘First Bahrain,’ a regional estate developer, to turn a plot of land adjacent to City Centre Mall into a fun filled extravaganza for the whole family.
The BIC Race Zone will be home to a variety of activities celebrating motor sport, including arts and crafts, cultural music shows, games and entertainment for all ages and nationalities.
It is anticipated that thousands of fans will visit the BIC Race Zone to share the excitement of the racing season in Bahrain, said a top official.
'The BIC Race Zone will be a great opportunity for the families to enjoy a variety of entertainment and motorsport orientated activities in celebration of Bahrain’s status as ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East,’' remarked Shaikh Salman Bin Isa Al Khalifa, Acting CEO of Bahrain International Circuit.
'It will be a fantastic chance for the public to learn about the history of both regional and international motorsport while having an exciting day out,' he added.
The BIC Race Zone will be especially fun for children thanks to a long list of exciting events being planned including stilt walkers, carnival acts, street performers, clowns, pottery painting and magicians at the Kids Zone.
For adults looking for an adrenaline fix they will be able to enjoy the ‘Sling Shot’- a gigantic contraption which projects its passengers straight up into the sky at mind blowing velocities.
For the true Grand Prix fans there will be a Formula One simulator and pit stop challenge, allowing visitors the chance to experience the rush of Formula One, in preparation for the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in March.
In true celebratory spirit, there will be a Formula One car replica display branded in a variety of Bahraini businesses. A mountain bike stunt display team will be performing their routines of very difficult bike tricks using a combination of objects and structures, Shaikh Salman said.
First Bahrain’s decision to lend its land to this event was not a financial one, said Amin Al Arrayed, general manager of First Bahrain.
“Racing season in Bahrain is about the community, and people of all backgrounds enjoying F1 together. We don’t see this as a revenue generating project, we are happy that we can utilise the prime position of our land to make the F1 accessible for everyone,' he explained.
'In addition, our support falls in line with our aim to play an active role in the cultural development of the Kingdom, of which our contribution to motorsport is a major part,' he added.
BIC Race Zone will be open from February 24 to March 14 between 4pm until 10pm and is free for public.-TradeArabia News Service
