All-new Porsche Boxster, Cayman models launched

Abu Dhabi, March 18, 2009

After a successful year of record sales, Porsche Centre Abu Dhabi, Ali & Sons Company, have launched the latest generation of Boxster and Cayman models in Abu Dhabi further complimenting its range of iconic luxury sports vehicles.

Both cars were launched together under the theme of “black and white” at the Salam Street showroom.

With previous versions of both vehicles selling very well in Abu Dhabi alongside the ever-popular 911 and Cayenne range, the new Boxster and Cayman form an important part of Porsche’s future strategy, said a company official.

“The launch of the new Boxster and Cayman in this market is very important to Porsche as both these cars have been strong sellers across the region,” said Deesch Papke, managing director, Porsche Middle East and Africa.

“Each car has its own special character, further enhanced with Porsche’s latest technologies, giving customers the involving driving experience they have come to expect from our company.”

Both the new generation cars feature the renowned Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK)  gearbox. This unique double-clutch gearbox was first used by Porsche in its race cars in the 80s and recently introduced in the new generation of the 911.

In this case, this gearbox allows the Boxster S to accelerate to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, with the standard Boxster with PDK completing the same sprint in just 5.8 seconds.

Importantly, the new gearbox allows for better performance with reduced emissions and lower fuel consumption, the perfect scenario for Porsche customers.

“By adding our proven Doppelkupplungsgetriebe gearbox to the Boxster and Cayman, Porsche can bring the wide range of advantages of this technology to a wider audience,” Papke observed.

“The PDK system really is a great step forward in gearbox technology from both a performance and environmental point of view.”

For the first time in this model line the engines of the S models (3.4 litre) feature Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) giving maximum performance on minimum fuel.

With this system the fuel and air is mixed inside the combustion chamber giving cooler temperatures in the cylinder and increased efficiency. Both cars also feature extra-large air intakes, LED daytime lights and the option of ceramic brakes.

The Boxster and Cayman benefit from the latest version of the versatile Porsche Stability Management system (PSM), giving drivers even greater confidence in the agility of their new vehicles.

“It’s great to be able to offer the new generation of Boxster and Cayman to our customers,” said Wessam Khalil, brand manager at Porsche Centre Abu Dhabi.

“Both cars have proved extremely popular in Abu Dhabi and we expect that to continue. Demand for these cars can only increase with the introduction of all the company’s dynamic new driving technologies and the ever growing desire for this iconic brand.”

“With two entirely new models for our popular Boxster and Cayman ranges, Porsche is well placed to continue as one of the world’s leading sports car manufacturers and a key brand in the Middle East automotive market,” Papke added.

The Boxster and Cayman are both available in either 2.9 litre standard or 3.4 litre S variants, with a wide range of options available for both. Either car can be supplied with the Porsche PDK gearbox or in six-speed manual guise.

The Boxster is available for Dh165,300 (45,004), Boxster S for Dh193,100,  Cayman for Dh179,100 and Cayman S for Dh204,500.-TradeArabia News Service
