Nissan models bag ‘'Top Gear’ awards
Dubai, June 1, 2008
Nissan Middle East has scooped top honours at the Arabic edition of 'BBC Top Gear' Magazine’s car of the year awards. The 'Nissan GT-R' high-performance sports sedan was designated ‘super-car of the year’ while the ‘SUV award’ went to the Nissan Qashqai.
“There is a little bit of GT-R in every Nissan, so two Nissan vehicles being recognised in the magazine’s annual awards is justifiable cause for celebration,” said Monal Zeidan, general manager, marketing and corporate communications department at Nissan Middle East.
"The GT-R has been hailed as the most accomplished and technologically advanced high-performance car ever made. Despite a top speed of 308 km/h – accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds – the GT-R is described by Nissan engineers as “an all-around, all-season, all-weather car that is comfortable to drive every day, even at normal speeds on a normal day," said Zeidan.
The Qashqai adds a new dimension to the small crossover utility segment – satisfying both the functional and emotional needs of customers with a bouquet of aggressive performance-oriented styling, powerful engine and driver-focused cockpit that shifts the way drivers think about small crossovers.
“Both vehicle awards endorse Nissan’s leadership in distinctive design and exhilarating performance – as is also borne out by the exceptional customer response to both,” Zeidan noted.
The Arabic version of BBC Top Gear is written and produced in Dubai and is distributed across Middle East markets. The supporting Top Gear TV programme on BBC was ranked as the number one automotive production on television.-TradeArabia News Service
