Manama, March 25, 2008
Sajeev Sankaran, a senior technician at National Motor Company's General Motors (GM) workshop has won the second place in the first annual GM Middle East Technicians Skills Competition, held recently in Bahrain.
The competition was designed to identify and recognise the 'Best of the Best' GM technicians from a pool of over 2,500 GM technicians working in the Middle East region.
The top 19 technicians were short-listed from the initial list and were pitted against each other in the finals which was held at the Bahrain International Circuit, said a GM official.
'The top 19 technicians performed in an open competition, to diagnose repair and correct systems on vehicles purposefully outfitted with faults and operating problems. The competition also had a written section to ascertain technician’s theoretical knowledge as well.'
Sanjeev Sankaran, performed exceptionally well in the very tough and close competition and was placed second in the overall ranking, he added.
An award ceremony was held at the Diplomat Radisson SAS Hotel to announce the winners and the top 5 technicians were awarded prizes by the GM regional after sales director Celso Navarro and regional marketing director, David Venticich.
Xavier Stephen, senior manager-head of aftersales at National Motor Company said, 'we are extremely proud of the fact that Sanjeev Sankaran has done exceptionally well in the GM Middle East Technicians Skills Competition.'
'This is testimony to the high calibre of our technicians and the periodic training and skills upgrading opportunities provide to our staff. This is a proud day for all of us at National Motor Company, he added.
