General Motors recently conducted its first ever Technicians Skills Competition in the Middle East region.

Held on February 19th and 20th at the Bahrain international Circuit (BIC), the inaugural challenge was won by Michael Jamon, who works for Universal Motors Agencies in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

Nineteen specially-selected technicians from General Motors dealerships all over the Middle East came together in Bahrain to perform in an open competition in which they demonstrated their technical prowess in diagnosing and correcting systems and vehicles purposefully outfitted with faults and operating problems.

Competitors were divided into six groups, which rotated through six different testing environments including written tests, measurements of mechanical and electrical components and powertrain faults.  Besides providing an opportunity for the technicians to prove their competence, the competition also aims to help improve the level of customer service performance at GM dealerships. 

“I am so proud to be the very first winner of the General Motors Technicians Skills Competition” said Michael Jamon. "The competition was an enormous challenge, but I think that the key to winning was in the intensive preparation beforehand, gained through many years experience and training that I have received working in the dealer."

“The competition is an additional platform allowing us to continuously measure and improve the quality of our after sales services.  Ultimately it is the consumer who will reap the benefits from such an event," he said.

At the awards ceremony held at the BIC, all winners received official certificates and prizes.  The winner finished narrowly ahead of Sajeev Sankaran from the Kingdom of Bahrain in second place and Charbel Stephan from Lebanon in third place. – TradeArabia News Service
