Used car complex gets ready

Dubai, August 19, 2007

Dubai Municipality will soon open the Dh95 million annex of Used Cars Complex (Auto Market) at Ras Al Khor.

Work on the project is almost complete and once the finishing touches are given, showrooms and stores would be handed over to the tenants, said Essa Al Maidour, assistant director general of Dubai Municipality for General Projects Affairs.

He said the annex of the Auto Market includes eight steel-structured complexes consisting 74 showrooms whose areas range from 360 sq m to 630 sq m. The total area of the complexes would be 130,000 sq m.

'All these showrooms have already been leased out to licensed used cars traders in the emirate in a public auction held last January,' said Al Maidour.

He noted that the uniquely designed structures have huge glass frontages thereby offering a clear exterior view of cars displayed inside the showroom. There is an administration block and services building that offers car wash, maintenance and other related services.

He noted that the new complex would offer car testing and registration services for sold vehicles in order to facilitate the selling and buying procedures.

'Cars will be tested at the Tasjeel centre inside the complex and registration procedures will be carried out in a matter of half an hour or so,' he said. There are parking lots to meet the projected demand.

Set up in April 2000, the existing Dh55 million used car complex includes 130 showrooms which are now doing brisk business. The complex was built by the municipality to bring all used car outlets together under one umbrella.

The complex allows customers to select, mechanically test, buy, register and insure a car - all at one location. Technically once the car has been chosen, all procedures can be completed within 30 minutes at the complex, which allows people to buy a used car within an hour if they need to. - TradeArabia News Service
