BIC set to break events record
Manama, August 15, 2007
The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is on course to host a record number of trackside events this year.
Marketing executive Ameera Al Kooheji was quoted as saying by the Gulf Daily News that the BIC is confident that it will surpass the 540 activities achieved last year before the end of December.
Speaking to a visiting delegation from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Bahrain Training Institute (BTI), she said the key to the track's success was that it was open to sports, business and social events, involving local, regional and international participants.
Visitors were briefed on the benefit hosting the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, highlighting its contribution to the growth of the economy and in the expansion of tourism.
Guests were also given insights into the history of the circuit and the various events it has hosted, including the Australian V8 Supercars, and the 24-hour race.
The delegation were welcomed by BIC Administration director Abdurrahman Qarata, human resources manager Hamed Ahmed Abdulrahman, senior information technology manager Mohammed Rashid and training and career development head Osama Al Nuwain.
Meanwhile, officials revealed there had been a remarkable surge in requests to participate in the open track events, held on select days at the circuit.
Participants can drive 4X4 Hummers, Quad Extreme, Caterham Extreme or Skid Extreme or use their own cars and bikes on the Sakhir circuit.
