The Grand Mosque in Makkah

Grand Mosque's cooling system one of the largest in the world

MAKKAH, 16 days ago

The cooling system at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, managed by the General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, is recognised as one of the largest in the world, a report said.

The intricate cooling and air purification system boasts a cooling capacity of up to 155,000 tonnes, distributed through two main stations, Kadi Station and Al-Shamiya Station, with capacities of 120,000 tonnes and 35,000 tonnes, respectively, Saudi Press Agency, SPA, said.

The advanced cooling system provides a safe and comfortable environment for pilgrims, reflecting the importance of technological and operational excellence in maintaining the sanctity and comfort of the holy site, a statement said.

The air is sterilised using ultraviolet rays, achieving a purification rate of 100%. The process is vital in maintaining a germ-free environment within the mosque's various areas.

The system is meticulously managed by the technical, operational, maintenance, and facilities management agency, which ensures the electromechanical systems are operating optimally.

Technicians adjust air distribution based on visitor numbers to maintain thermal comfort while maximizing energy efficiency.

The temperature within the Grand Mosque is controlled year-round, maintaining an average of 20 to 24 degrees Celsius, regardless of external weather conditions. – TradeArabia News Service
