Dubai businessman honoured for philanthropic work

DUBAI, UAE, December 13, 2015

Ghassan Aboud, chairman and owner of Dubai-based Ghassan Aboud Group, has received the Global Gift Foundation’s Philanthropreneur Award in recognition of his humanitarian work.

Aboud funds Orient for Human Relief, a non-profit humanitarian relief agency serving Syrian refugees and their children.

The Global Gift Philanthropreneuer Award is presented a businessman every year for his dedication to make societal improvement, the organisers said. Previous winners include several well-known leaders, celebrities, and philanthropists, such as Deepak Chopra, Prince Azim of Brunei Farhad Moshiri, Vasily Klyukin, Victoria Beckham, Lara Fabian, Nikos Aliagas, and David Beckham.

On winning the award, Aboud said: “I dedicate this award to the future of Syria’s children and I wish them a future as bright as the one that children of other civilized nations enjoy.”

Addressing the gathering, he called upon the business community to dedicate some of their time to providing services to the community. “It is incumbent upon us to be supportive and offer what we can give during this critical time so that perhaps our children can have a better future,” he added.

In addition to funding Orient for Human Relief, the Ghassan Aboud Group is a contributor to the UAE Red Crescent’s “We Care” campaign serving families in Yemen and Dubai Cares, a philanthropic organization working to improve children's access to quality primary education in developing countries, said a company statement. -TradeArabia News Service
