Bahrain MPs warn US envoy

Bahrain's US Ambassador Thomas Krajeski has been warned to keep his nose out of Bahrain's business by the kingdom's members of parliament.
MPs have called on the government to take action over his alleged interference in domestic affairs and demanded an end to his meetings with political opposition groups, said a report in the Gulf Daily News, our sister newspaper.
Parliament yesterday voted unanimously in favour of the proposal, which was submitted seven months ago amid outrage at perceived meddling and comments in the Press.
It is not the first time Mr Krajeski has been the target of MPs' anger, the report said.
Last October, parliament passed a no-confidence vote on his appointment, based on allegations of "suspicious" meetings with opposition groups in the US and his work as a diplomat in Iraq.
"His comments and meetings are unacceptable for the majority of Bahrain's population because they are backing those who incite division rather than helping solve anything," said parliament public utilities and environment affairs committee chairman MP Hassan Al Dossary during an extraordinary session yesterday.
Parliament services committee vice-chairman MP Abdulla Bin Howail said Bahrain's ties with the US did not give it the right to dictate policy.
"We respect the US and have friendly ties with them, but that doesn't mean they can interfere and tell us what to do," he said. - TradeArabia News Service
