Abu Dhabi, December 7, 2011
Torresol Energy, a joint venture company between Masdar and Sener, recently scooped two awards at the CSP Today Sevilla 2011, the 5th International Concentrated Solar Thermal Power Summit, recently held in Sevilla, Spain.
The annual event brought together professionals from the solar power industry and awards were handed out to the most outstanding concentrated solar power companies for 2011.
Torresol Energy was awarded in the categories of ‘Commercialised Technology Innovation 2011’ and ‘Most Effective Project Development 2011’ for Gemasolar, a statement from the company said.
Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of Masdar, said: “Gemasolar serves as a technological model for the successful development of future solar plants and this recognition will pave the way forward for many others to follow suit and invest in the development of clean technology.”
Gemasolar is the first commercial plant in the world to use molten salt thermal storage in a central tower configuration with a heliostat field. The plant was officially launched in October by HH General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and the King of Spain, Juan Carlos I.
Sener also received two awards at the event for ‘Engineering Firm 2011’ and ‘Increased Dispatchability Solution 2011’, the statement said.
The company has been responsible for supplying all of the technology for Gemasolar, the engineering detail design and for leading the EPC and commissioning works of the plant.
Masdar, a strategic developer of renewable energy power projects, brought on board the commercial approach towards funding and operating this facility, it said. – TradeArabia News Service
