Iraq suspends wheat imports on illegal trade
Baghdad, May 25, 2011
Iraq has temporarily halted wheat imports until the end of this harvest to curb traders illegally reselling imported crops as local produce to take advantage of high prices, agriculture minister said on Tuesday.
Iraq is one of the world's largest grain importers and the government pays some of the highest prices for wheat in the region as they try to encourage farmers to plant more local crops and increase domestic production. – Reuters
