Thousands of Bahrainis form human chain

Manama, March 6, 2011

Thousands of Bahrainis joined hands in an attempt to form a human chain from the Pearl Roundabout to the Ahmed Al Fateh Islamic Centre (Grand Mosque) in Juffair yesterday.

People, including young, took part in the latest event to show solidarity with anti-government protesters.

People also dressed in Red and White as a symbol of nationalism.

The silent protest took place on the pavements of main roads leading between both landmarks.

It had been announced in advance via Facebook and Twitter and through the BlackBerry messenger service.

Mother-of-two Zainab Mohammed said she decided to take part in the event to stress her love and support for fellow protesters.

'The event is peaceful,' Mohammed said.

'It shows that we are all working hand in hand to create a better Bahrain for all of us,' she said.

'It also symbolises that our demands are legitimate and are Bahraini.'

The 25-year-old said she felt the initiative stressed the need to avoid divisions.

Participant Faisal Yousif said he was proud of the turnout at the event.

'The more the participants the more it says that people are with changes of the reforms for a better future,' said the 36-year-old.

'The chain also stresses that these participants are together whether at the Pearl Roundabout or Al Fateh Mosque, as long as we share the same legitimate call for demands,' Yousif added.

The event began at 3pm. It caused major traffic tailbacks on several roads.-TradeArabia News Service
