Zain backs first female member of racing team

MANAMA, November 19, 2016

Zain Bahrain, a leading telecoms operator, said it will be sponsoring May Al Haji, the first female member of the Zain Racing Team, as well as supporting her participation in other major competitions such as Ironman 70.3 and triathlon events.

Zain Racing Team is the company’s in-house team for all types of racing events, including automotive sports, running, cycling and triathlons.

Al Haji, a marketing specialist at Zain Bahrain’s premium club, Zain Signature, is a seasoned athlete who has been playing tennis since she was 12, representing the country at the Arab Tennis Championships in 2001 and 2002, where she was the top ranking female, with Bahrain placed third overall.

She took up running in 2012 and completed her first full marathon in January 2014. Her talent for endurance events led to her becoming the first Middle Eastern woman at Challenge Half Iron Distance 2014, and she completed her first full Ironman in New Zealand in 2015.

Al Haji was also the first Bahraini woman across the line at Ironman 70.3 Bahrain 2015, securing a coveted place at the World Championships at Sunshine Coast, Australia.

She has served as a Board Member of Bahrain Road Runners since 2012 and was appointed general secretary of the Bahrain Triathlon Association in 2013.

“It is a matter of immense pride for us that our colleague May is raising the flag of Bahrain high at such prestigious sports events,” said Zain Bahrain corporate events manager, Ghazi Radhi.

“Zain Bahrain supports both the professional and personal development of its employees, and we are pleased to be able to play a part in enhancing May’s skills and helping her take her sports career to the next level,” stated Radhi.-TradeArabia News Service
