The inauguration event was held under the patronage of Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice chairman, Dubai Culture, in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3), and supported by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority.
Dr Amina Al Rustamani, group chief executive officer of TECOM Group, opened the show with a ribbon cutting ceremony in the presence of d3’s chief operating officer Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi; Saeed Hareb, secretary general of Dubai Sports Council; Saeed M Al Nabouda, acting director general, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority; Marwan Bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq); Khaled Al-Muhairy, founder and chief executive officer at Evolvence Capital; Mohidin BinHendi, president and CEO of BinHendi Enterprises; and Ben Floyd, CEO of Art Dubai Group.
The event runs till October 29.
Dubai’s design community will showcase the best of the city’s creativity through an extensive programme of design-dedicated events during the week. Various activities throughout the week hosted by local retailers, design brands, restaurants, universities and institutions, creative studios and galleries, will offer visitors the chance to attend workshops, launches and exhibitions, film screenings and more.
The event covers a diverse six-day programme of keynote speeches, panel discussions, public performances and educational workshops. These will allow all visitors – from local start-ups and entrepreneurs to international visitors, the media and families – the opportunity to discover and engage with design.
The free-to-attend programme will serve as a rich introduction to the design scene in the UAE, and build on the many events and exhibitions happening throughout the week and beyond, said a statement.
