French audiovisual firms to showcase technologies in Dubai

DUBAI, March 3, 2016

French audiovisual companies are set to present their cutting edge technology at the upcoming Cabsat 2016 in Dubai, UAE.

The event will run from March 8 to 10 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The audiovisual sector in France is mainly driven by the development of digital technology that has led to radical changes both in industry and service development, said a statement.

The major event of recent years is the success of digital terrestrial television and the development of HD and UHD. Terrestrial television full HD broadcasting will be completed in April.

At the end of last year, about 97.3 per cent of French households had access to digital television (DTTV, satellite, ADSL or cable),including 89.5 per cent in HD terrestrial.

About 99 per cent of the households have a television set. As many as eight out of 10 households are equipped with a HD Television, while 77 per cent are going through DTTV and 44.3 per cent through a HD fibre or ADSL box.

Meanwhile, cable television (8.9 per cent) remains an alternative for large cities, while satellite TV (24 per cent) is growing in areas where cable and DTTV are not present.

Many French companies have expressed a lively interest for the widened tele-visual offer brought about by the introduction of digital television. The number of paying channels has gone up to 141 and services available have significantly increased with the development of HD broadcasting .

Similarly, the strong development of broadband and high-speed broadband enabled telecoms companies to develop 'triple play' and 'quadruple play' HD packages, which won a great success among users. - TradeArabia News Service
