Denton signs MoU with OBG

Dentons in deal to publish OBG’s legal framework report

DUBAI, January 20, 2016

Dentons, a leading law firm, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oxford Business Group (OBG) for the publishing of its updated legal framework analysis for 2016.

Under the MoU, the firm is teaming up with OBG for a fourth consecutive year to compile and produce the Law Chapter of The Report: Dubai 2016.

The changing role of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and what its expansion means for the wider business community is one of many issues to be explored in the report.

The Report: Dubai 2016, which is to be published shortly, will shine a spotlight on the emirate’s new laws and others that remain in the pipeline, said a statement.

There will be detailed coverage of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) law and its significance for investors, it said.

The publication will also give business leaders an insight into what to expect from the upcoming VAT law and from a potential introduction of a corporate tax.

Other topics analysed include the UAE’s decision to scale back fuel subsidies.

Michael Kerr, managing partner – Middle East at Dentons, is working once again with OBG for this new edition of The Report and bringing readers up to date on the legal developments taking place in Dubai, many of which were significant for investors.

“Our research with the Group will focus on several areas of interest, including the increase in activity at the Dubai International Financial Centre’s court, now that its reach for settling disputes has been extended outside of the emirate’s borders,” he said.

“While challenges remain, the centre’s efforts to ensure that its judgments are enforced effectively will be of considerable interest to business leaders eyeing the UAE as an investment destination.”

Jana Treeck, OBG’s managing director for Middle East, said: “We know that 2016 will be a year in which important new laws are ushered in and others introduced in 2015 take root.

“For more than five decades Dentons has been a key player in helping businesses to understand and navigate these legislative changes. I’m delighted that its team will be helping to keep our legal analysis ahead of the game.”

Nihan Alan, OBG’s country director in Dubai, agreed that the group’s partnership with Dentons had given the publishing firm’s reports on the emirate an edge.

“Like Oxford Business Group, Dentons recognises the importance of having access to local expertise when it comes to providing customers and clients with the most accurate and up-to-date information available in increasingly integrated markets,” she said.

“It is a pleasure to work with its team again in what promises to be a year of exciting developments in the emirate.”

The report will be a vital guide to the many facets of the emirate, including its macroeconomics, infrastructure, banking and other sectoral developments, said the statement.

The publication will also contain interviews with leading representatives from the UAE and from abroad, and will be available in print or onling, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
