Spectacular Dubai Electric Run to draw thousands
DUBAI, October 6, 2015
Thousands of runners are expected to fill the Meydan route of the first ActiveLife Electric Run, a night run combining lights, music and exercise in one unique experience, in Dubai, UAE, on November 6.
The much-anticipated course layout for the run has been unveiled by organisers. The course will be quite different from others seen in the cities across Asia, Europe and the US that have already played host to the world’s brightest night run.
Event organisers have created an experience to bombard the senses through a fusion of light, sound and even smell. The race layout maximises the infrastructure and urban landscape presented by the iconic Meydan facility, including the racecourse itself, the iconic Royal Bridge spanning the Al Meydan Road, the underground jockey’s tunnel, and the double-decker levels of the car park and surrounding roads.
“This will be the most dramatic Electric Run course constructed anywhere in the world,” said race director David Sanderson from ActiveLife Electric Run organisers Fast Track.
“Runners will experience an extraordinary urban route in a uniquely Dubai setting. We have laid out the 5 km course across two levels, over bridges, through tunnels and through seven unique lands that will light up the night sky with a fusion of neon and dance music.”
A cacophony of music from some of the best local UAE DJs will create the soundtrack to the unique night run that takes in seven differently themed courselands. The 5 km neon-lit track will feature giant light installations, bubble-gum scented smoke machines, DJs blasting the latest tunes, and an epic end-of-run concert.
The journey itself begins on the start line where participants will get amped to run the 5km distance through a combination of top hits, classic electronic tracks, and a programmed light display to help them dance their way across the start line, before being released onto the course in 10 minute waves, organisers said.
From the start line the course quickly rises to the first elevated section which leads runners into the first land - Candy Lane - where they will run through giant inflatable candies, ice cream cones, and gummy worm arches as the smell of cotton candy and vanilla wafts through the air.
Next up is Electro Rainforest where umbrellas hover overhead, lit with glowing hues to help participants weather the storm, with the sounds of the jungle to keep them bouncing through.
Leading the runners up alongside the famous Meydan racecourse is the Rainbow Road where technicolour arches of light dance above participants’ heads as they shake their way down.
Having negotiated the Rainbow Road runners head underground through the jockey’s tunnel and into Meydan’s saddling paddock before beginning their journey Under the Sea where jellyfish, sea anemones and UV bubbles will appeal to all ages.
After emerging from their sub-aquatic experience, the runners journey along the electrifying lights of the Colour Brick Road and onto a loop of the iconic Royal Bridge, illuminating the Al Meydan Road.
Neffmau5 Land is the penultimate land where Deadmau5 tracks spin, Neff inspired neon trees line your path, and colourful lanterns light the way while runners make their way through this ethereal wonderland.
The final part of the unforgettable experience will see the crowds head through the Powerhouse – an inflatable power station which marks the end of the journey and the start of the post-race party where the running masses, dressed from head to toe in neon, will be able to enjoy a post-race celebration featuring top local DJs playing on the Electric Run main stage.
